PART 1: What I've learned in journalism

Although I started the journalism elective class late, there is so much I've come to know about it in such little time. I think many schools should offer journalism as an elective because it can help develop many skills, including social skills that can be useful in ones future. I've learned the difference between good and bad journalisim. Bad journalism consists of little facts, and barley any information. There's so much more to journalism than just "news" about what happens. You need to introduce all the different parts of journalism. Journalism has many parts that are important to make it "Good Journalism" such as the H and the 5 W's; "How", and "Who, What, When, Where and Why". The H and the 5 W's are a simple task that goes a long way in journalisim, because just those 5 things can start an interesting lead, that can help enhance the article.Good journalism needs a good lead, to make the leaders want to learn more about a topic. The main purpose of a lead is to introduce the story and make people want to learn about it, without giving the entire story away. Next, there comes the body paragraph. The body paragraph is where you unfold all the information, in a paragraph. When it comes to your body paragraph, it is important to use "6th grade vocabulary" or in other words, smaller words so people of all ages, can read your article and understand what you're saying. Next comes the conclusion paragraph. In your conclusion, it is your job to close your article, and wrap everything you just wrote about up. It is the ending to your article, and can sometimes be the most important piece of your article. That is what I've learned in journalism, so far this year.
